Clean

I’ve always been impressed with Fife, generally speaking, the streets are always maintained well and kept clean. I’ve noticed cleaning crews out from as early as six in the morning to six in the evening, there’s more however the people of Fife often band together and go litter picking to keep areas clean, not only in beaches but parks and streets/roads (much to much surprise) too!

Near nature

No matter where you live in Fife nature always seems to be close at hand. Speaking from personal experience the coastal paths of Kirkcaldy are lovely. The walk towards Leven past Ravenscraig Castle and Dysart is one I’ve done many times and would highly recommend. There are reportedly around 117 miles of paths and coastal paths to explore!

Family-friendly

Fife has no end of parks, as a rule of thumb I’d guess there is one at least within a five-minute walk of most residential areas(housing estates). Fife also has a Zoo you can visit an aquarium at St. Andrews and Deep Seaworld at Inverkeithing. The Scottish Deer Center near Cuapr is always fun. Throughout the year there are different festivals held, for example in Pittenweem art festivals are held in August. During the early parts of summer, there are plenty of Highland games being held too. Fife also hosts the oldest Market in Europe, it has plenty of rides for adventure seekers, it was established in 1304!

Beautiful beaches

The beaches of Fife are wonderful and mostly clean. Crail Beach is a family favourite as is the beach near Ravenscraig Castle in Kirkcaldy. During the summer I’d highly recommend checking them out you won’t be disappointed!

History

Fife has a rich history spanning back to the time of the Picts. The ancient Royal capital of Scotland gives Fife the right to call itself a Kingdom. During the medieval period, Dunfermline was the royal residence and the resting place of many Kings and Queens such as Robert de Bruce. The abbey was founded in the 11th century by Queen Margaret. Fife also played a central role in the reformation during the 16th century(which will eventually be covered). St. Andrews University is the third oldest in the English-speaking world, it is also home to some Scots who changed the world with their ideas such as Adam Smith author of Wealth of Nations.

Life in Fife

Overall I’d say Fife isn’t an extraordinarily expensive place to live(perhaps except in St. Andrews), the location makes it relatively easy to get to Edinburgh and Dundee making it the ideal place to live and commute to both cities. Personally coming from a place like Paisley I find it peaceful here and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of a change.
