Stand With Craig McLeish: Now’s the Time to Back the Manager
Let’s call it what it is—the last few weeks have been rough.
You look at the league table and, honestly, it’s not a happy sight. You can feel the frustration building in the stands. You hear it in the muttering, you see it in the slumped shoulders. Nobody’s enjoying this.
But now, with another big game ahead, we’ve got a choice. We can blame, grumble, and pick apart every decision—or we can get behind the people who need us most right now.
For me, there’s only one way forward.
It’s time to rally behind Craig McLeish.

The Injury Crisis: No Hiding From It
Let’s not dodge the obvious. Before we even get into tactics or formations, we need to talk about the pile-up in the physio room.
This isn’t just about missing a few squad players. We’re missing the heart of the team.
The Engine Room: Three first-choice central midfielders out. That’s a nightmare for anyone in this league. Now we’re asking players to grind through full matches when they’re barely match-fit.
Creativity on Ice: The players who unlock defences? Sitting in the stands. That kills our transitions and any chance to break through stubborn opponents.
Defensive Jigsaw: Our main full-backs are out, so we’re plugging the gaps with centre-backs out wide. Of course our attacking width has vanished.
You can’t just “coach” your way out of having half a bench and academy lads filling out the squad sheet.
This isn’t on Craig McLeish.

Don’t Lose Perspective
Think back to when Craig McLeish first took charge. The mood was completely different. There was early praise for smart tactical ideas, a solid defensive shape, and some promising under-the-radar signings starting to bed in.
He hasn’t suddenly forgotten how to coach—and it’s far too early to suggest that. The board hasn’t suddenly lost the plot either.
So what’s changed?
Luck, basically. Hamstrings, ankles, freak injuries on the training pitch—it’s been relentless.
Yeah, losing hurts. But even when results don’t go our way, you can still see the fight.
With barely a full squad available, the lads keep battling. They’re not giving up, they’re not folding. There’s still structure. There’s still belief.
That says a lot about what Craig McLeish is trying to build in such a short space of time.
That says a lot about what Craig McLeish has built here.
The Next Game Matters A Lot
This next match isn’t just another date on the calendar. It’s a test of character—for all of us.
It’s easy to sit back, cross your arms, and wait for something to cheer.
But real fans the Buddies know when it’s time to lift the place.
That time is now.
So when a pass goes astray, don’t groan clap.
When the other lot keep the ball for a spell, don’t get nervous sing.
Make some noise.
The players know they’re up against it. They’re tired. Some are nervous.
But if we turn the stadium into a wall of support instead of a pit of anxiety, we become that extra man Craig McLeish desperately needs right now.
Backing Craig McLeish
We all knew this season would have bumps. Scottish football always does.
But a great manager proves himself when things get ugly—when the squad’s paper-thin and the pressure’s on.
He’s out there protecting the young lads in interviews. He’s not making excuses, even though he has every right.
That takes backbone.
So here’s my message to everyone—SMISA members, season ticket holders, and anyone coming along for the afternoon:
Drop the frustration. Bring the noise.
We’ll get through this injury nightmare together. The missing players will return. The climb will come.
Until then—lay off Craig McLeish.
Get behind the badge.
